Board hears report on Lawsonville Avenue surplus property; realtor and commission discussed

Miss Young reported to the board that the Lawsonville Avenue parcel is surplus property and that the board previously declined two negotiated bids and selected the upset-bid process to dispose of the parcel.
She said the use of a realtor could broaden interest and outreach to potential buyers but would not replace the statutory publication and upset-bid notice requirements under the general statute the district cited. Staff outlined other statutorily permitted disposal methods, including sealed bids, public auction or property exchange.
Board members asked for the realtor commission rate used in prior similar sales and discussed whether the matter should be moved from a report to a formal action item. Staff said they would research the commission percentage previously paid and report back. No formal vote was taken at the Feb. 9 meeting; the item was presented as a report and staff will follow up with commission information and next steps if the board wishes to pursue realtor engagement.
