Recreation committee backs council approval for temporary DORA activations at three summer concerts

The Recreations and Park Committee voted unanimously to recommend that council approve temporary activations of the city’s designated outdoor refreshment area for concerts scheduled June 20, July 4 and Aug. 1.
Staff member Mister Tindigern told the committee the request is routine, that the DORA map area “is not activated unless it's very specifically authorized by the council on a case by case basis,” and that activation requires the consent of property owners. He said the rec and park boards reviewed the dates and recommended council approval and that staff will announce bands on social media once schedules are finalized. “We are not requesting emergency legislation,” he said.
Chair Jeffrey Whitten and other committee members raised no objections during the presentation; one member in the audience moved to proceed, and the committee voted unanimously to forward the recommendation to council.
The recommendation now goes to full council for final approval and any conditions the council may impose.
