The Garrett County Board approved a recommendation to award the Oakland-area school bus contract to Justin Fitzwater after the district received five letters of interest and interviewed all applicants.
District staff said the incumbent operator for Bus 40 chose not to renew because they did not want to purchase a new bus. A selection committee reviewed applications anonymously and recommended Fitzwater; Superintendent McCarty recommended awarding the contract and the board approved the award in public session.
Separately, the board approved a motion setting Tuesday, May 26 as the last day for seniors this year, with graduation scheduled for a Saturday following Memorial Day (board materials list the day as the day after Memorial Day return). Both items were presented as action items and approved with verbal 'aye' votes recorded in the public transcript.
Other routine motions on the agenda (agenda approval, consent agenda, adjournment) were also approved during the meeting.
