Garrett County schools receive clean FY2025 single audit; board approves report

Auditors presenting Jan. 13 told the Garrett County Board of Education that the FY2025 single audit returned an unmodified opinion and identified no material weaknesses or findings. The board approved the single audit report that evening.
The auditors said the federal compliance supplement needed to complete the single audit was delayed by federal timing, and GCPS requested and received a state extension to complete the single audit by March 31. The audit covered major federal programs determined by risk‑based criteria, including Title I and the special education discretionary cluster. The presenter noted that organizations that expend $750,000 or more in federal awards are required to have a single audit.
Auditor Mr. Lucas said the unmodified opinion "means that the board complied in all material respects with the requirements of the federal programs we picked for audit." The superintendent recommended approval, a motion to accept the report was made and seconded, and the board approved the single audit package.
Board members thanked the finance team for their work preparing materials for the audit.
