Committee approves merging vending oversight and economic development panels

On Feb. 10 the Madison Common Council Executive Committee voted unanimously to take two items together and to approve an ordinance package that merges the Vending Oversight Committee and the Economic Development Committee into a new Business and Economic Resources Committee (BERC) and updates references across the Madison General Ordinances.
The chair explained the change grew out of a TFOG recommendation to reduce boards, committees and commissions. "Obviously, this all came from TFOG's recommendation to reduce boards, committees, and commissions," the chair said while introducing the items. No substantive questions for staff were raised and the committee recorded a unanimous vote in favor of taking items 2 and 3 together and approving the ordinance updates.
The ordinances referenced MGO 9.12 and MGO 33.17; staff stated the updates will realign vending regulations (State Street Mall/Capitol Concourse and high-density vending areas) with the newly consolidated committee structure.
