Sweet Home superintendent spotlights teacher award, student honors and budget schedule

Dr. Genesi also noted that about 47 students were recently inducted into the high school’s National Honor Society and thanked staff and volunteers involved in the ceremony, singling out Eva Basart for organizing the application review process. He told the board Sweet Home hosted a half-day meeting for 19 component-district superintendents from Erie 1 BOCES, where volunteers and Lisa LaBreque presented the district’s "chef" program; he said the program involves roughly 200–300 volunteers and provides food and support services to students in need.
The superintendent described a visit from Melinda Person, president of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), who met with students in the district’s media program during Media Literacy Week. "She talked to six or seven students from the media program," he said, and the visit was framed as part of statewide efforts to promote media literacy instruction.
On budgeting, Dr. Genesi summarized the district’s spring schedule: the first budget study session took place Feb. 7; additional sessions are set for March 10 and April 14; the board’s budget hearing and board vote are scheduled for April 21; and community voting day for the district budget is May 19. He invited the public to attend upcoming sessions.
The superintendent also praised recent student performances: the middle school’s production of Disney’s High School Musical Jr. sold out both nights and involved more than 100 students, drawing strong community response.
The report included routine event notices and staff acknowledgements and closed with reminders of upcoming district meetings and community events.
