Wicomico schools report $70,000+ in grant awards, nearly $550,000 submitted

Dr. Reger reported to the board that Wicomico County Public Schools received 16 grants in December totaling more than $70,000 and submitted 12 grant applications that month totaling nearly $550,000.
Specifically, Dr. Reger said the Maryland Center for School Safety provided over $25,000 to enhance school safety and emergency communication; the Maryland State Department of Education provided over $21,000 to support elementary and secondary field trips in science and social studies; Arts for Learning Maryland granted over $2,500 to Prince Street Elementary for a poetry/spoken-word residency; Walmart's Spark Grants contributed $2,000 for the Arrive to Thrive attendance initiative; and the Community Foundation awarded four Feeding Our Neighbors grants totaling $12,500 for food boxes and pantry supplies at several schools. Dr. Reger also noted five teachers received up to $1,000 each from the Hertrich Cash for Class program for classroom projects.
Dr. Reger said he had submitted 12 additional grants in December totaling nearly $550,000 and expected to report outcomes at a future meeting. The report was informational; no board action followed at this meeting.
