At the November meeting, the Wicomico County Board of Education approved several routine and action items by voice and roll-call votes.
The board approved open session minutes for past meetings and a consent package that included certificated personnel matters, purchase of local area network equipment under the E-rate program, and a computer and peripheral recycling contract with Sycamore International. The motion to approve the consent items was seconded and passed on a roll-call where each named board member voted 'aye.'
The board also approved, by roll-call, a recommended name change to a school bus contracting firm (Freddie Massey d/b/a FLC Massey to FM Massey LLC) upon the contractor’s request. Later, the board moved and approved a request from school bus contractors to purchase new buses; an attachment listed four drivers/companies and a total budgetary commitment described in the meeting as 'just shy of $50,000.' The roll-call for the bus purchase produced unanimous 'aye' votes and the motion was recorded as approved.
Several items were presented for information only, including renewals of MOUs with the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education, Wilmington University, Somerset County Public Schools (migrant education program) and community agencies supporting the Judy Center early learning hub. No formal action was taken on those information items during the meeting.
Votes recorded during roll-call identified board members by the names read by the clerk (Mr. Palmer; Miss Hazel; Mr. Platts; Mrs. Beauchamp; Mr. Brown; Dr. Ennis; and the chair, who voted 'aye').
