Cameron Parish police jury approves transit grant application, mapping contract negotiations, festival sponsorship and a slate of routine business

The Cameron Parish Police Jury used its Oct. 6 meeting to authorize several funding and contract actions and to approve routine business.
Major authorizations included a resolution granting the president authority to file an application with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for a rural transit grant under 49 CFR 5311. The jury also accepted an RFP review and gave staff authority to negotiate a fee-based contract with the highest average-scoring firm for geospatial/LIDAR services; the transcript lists four bidders and staff stated the highest average score belonged to 'Virgo' based on three reviewers’ scores.
The jury approved Amendment No. 1 to the mowing and litter pickup maintenance agreement with DOTD for four additional cycles, granted authority to sign an Innovative Readiness Training Management Agreement with the Department of Defense for pesticide-application training, and authorized the president to sign a property-use agreement with the LSU AgCenter for Grand Lake 4-H shooting sports.
Members also authorized sponsorships — $5,000 for the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival and a $5,000 sponsorship for the Southwest Louisiana Hospitality Suite in Washington, D.C. — adopted the Cameron Coastal Master Plan, approved 2026 NACO dues ($450), authorized a Hackberry Recreational District purchase of 4.2 acres (not to exceed fair market value), set a $1,000 reinstatement fee for temporary office structures, and instructed staff to advertise for bids on limestone, dust control, fuel and related materials. The jury accepted monthly financial statements, approved bills for payment and moved the date for certain executive-session items to Nov. 4.
Each motion was moved, seconded and recorded as carrying during the meeting. Several items noted the need for subsequent administrative steps: contract negotiation requires district-attorney review and transit-grant applications will be evaluated in the legislative session and by state reviewers.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with negotiations for the accepted RFP, submit the transit grant application by Nov. 1, coordinate with DOTD to implement additional mowing cycles, and publish the requested bid advertisements; the jury will revisit final contract awards and grant outcomes in later meetings.
