Jury reviews small change order to fix drainage at North Cameron EOC after neighboring construction altered runoff

Architect Eric Porsche of Porsche May explained a proposed change order (COR008) for drainage remediation at the North Cameron Emergency Operations Center (EOC). He said that during bidding and construction an adjacent building and grading changed site conditions, leaving a low spot near the Council on Aging that holds runoff and requires additional catch basins and piping.

Porsche proposed polymer light-commercial catch basins (approximately 12x12 with 6–8 inch outlet piping per preliminary notes) and said the work would add $6,913.68 and four days to contract time. Jurors pressed for the final size of pipe and capacity of the basins; Porsche committed to provide permit drawings, final sizes and a plan to verify whether regrading or reinstalling a removed concrete drive will be required to prevent future ponding. One juror asked whether the contractor or design professional would assume responsibility if the fix fails; the architect and staff said they would return with clearer drawings and, per prior discussion, would work to ensure the solution is adequate before final installation.

The jury approved adding the change order as an agenda add-on for the voting meeting; staff and the architect agreed to supply the detailed drawings and to confirm whether any reinstatement of removed paving will be included in the work prior to final acceptance.

Next steps: Staff to provide final drawings, exact basins/pipe sizes, and documentation; the change order will appear on the voting agenda for formal approval.
