Police Jury reinstates December definition for residential trash pickup; narrow vote ends proposed trash-can change

The Cameron Parish Police Jury debated changes to Resolution 12-03, which defines when solid-waste collection applies to recreational-vehicle sites and sets the parish’s residential trash pickup policy. After discussion about whether the ordinance should be changed to treat five or more RV spaces as an RV park and to limit residential trash service to two cans per address, jurors rejected the proposed amendment and instead voted to remove a prior suspension and reinstate the original resolution’s definition.
Staff read the December resolution’s language clarifying that a “residential unit shall not include resident recreational vehicles in an RV park where 2 or more spaces are available for rental and the services provided under the solid waste contract shall not apply” except for recreational vehicles registered as a primary residence and eligible for homestead exemption. Jurors discussed the need to advertise any ordinance change before adoption and debated practical impacts on collection and billing.
An initial motion to change the ordinance failed. After that failure, Mister Johnny moved to remove the suspension and return to the resolution as approved in December; Mister Danny seconded. The roll-call-style responses recorded during the vote included: Sonny (Nay), Danny (Aye), Ron (Aye), Sam (Nay) and Johnny (Aye); the motion carried and the jury reinstated the original resolution language.
Because the jury restored the December definition rather than adopting the proposed two-can limit, the parish’s solid-waste contract and the existing criteria for residential trash pickup remain in effect. The jury did not adopt a new trash-can limit and directed staff to follow existing policy and the contract until any formal ordinance change is properly advertised and considered.
