Rockefeller project team asks Cameron Parish for letter supporting another $20 million federal allocation

A representative for the Rockefeller shoreline project asked the Cameron Parish Police Jury on March 10 to provide a support letter for a fiscal-year 2025 congressional funding request to continue shoreline protection work.
The speaker said the parish and partners secured $10 million for shoreline protection in 2023 and $20 million last year and requested the jury’s support for a new $20 million allocation. He described permitting for nine miles of shoreline, with five miles completed and additional engineering and geotechnical work underway so that funds could be spent directly on rock placement when the project goes to bid.
Staff said the state hired an engineering firm (CPRA referenced) to complete surveys and that the federal Southwest Coastal office and the corps are the federal channels overseeing parts of the project. The project team said the effort includes close coordination with parish staff and local stakeholders and that the project is expected to be out for bid in August, with rock placement toward Beach Prong and the end of Price Lake Road to address breaches.
Jurors were asked to expect a draft support letter from the project team and to consider adding it to a future voting agenda.
