County staff to apply for up to $500,000 in childcare expansion funding; local capacity gap remains

Staff said they plan to apply for the maximum $500,000 and will seek private and in-kind matches that could bring total project resources to around $1 million for a childcare center expansion.
Staff recapped a local need estimate of approximately 120–160 childcare slots and said the county's planned expansion would reduce but not eliminate that gap. The board indicated staff should return on Sept. 15 with the application and a resolution of support for the board to consider.
Staff said they will gather community partner letters of support and return with an application and a proposed resolution to back the grant submission.
