The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission on Feb. 9 approved an authorization for Global Engineering to inspect the I‑94/421 overpass and submit annual maintenance reports to the Indiana Department of Transportation (NDOT), not to exceed $5,000 and subject to legal review.
Skyler York explained the commission’s historical betterment payments for decorative lighting and site features on the overpass and said the commission’s annual role is to assess and report conditions to NDOT; NDOT retains responsibility for actual maintenance if it chooses to act on the assessment. York told the commission the contract amount does not exceed $5,000 and recommended legal counsel review the contract scope. Trammell Rags concurred that the commission can approve pending legal review.
Commissioners approved the authorization by roll call with Clarence, Bill, Tracy and Sherry Wilson voting aye. The inspection and report will be submitted to NDOT by March 31, 2026, as part of the commission’s betterment commitment to the overpass.
