Assumption Parish jurors approved a change order not to exceed $10,000 to address approximately 40 feet of unexpected concrete removal discovered during courthouse renovation demolition and also granted tax‑exempt status for the courthouse renovation project on Jan. 23.
Staff told jurors they had missed that portion of demolition in the original plans and that the additional concrete removal requires an on‑site cut that was not originally included. The committee approved a motion to authorize a change order not to exceed $10,000 so the contractor can proceed without delay; staff said they would call a special meeting if the actual cost exceeded that figure.
Later in the meeting the jury approved a resolution authorizing tax‑exempt status for the courthouse renovation project for the named contractors (Triple B Construction and Sage Construction/subcontractor Bridal B) and authorized the president to sign related documents.
Next steps: contractor to proceed with the additional concrete removal under the approved not‑to‑exceed allowance; staff will process tax‑exempt documentation and return any further change‑order requests to the jury for approval.
