The Acadia Parish Police Jury covered a mix of ceremonial items, community presentations and administrative business at its Jan. 13 meeting in Crowley.
Proclamations and community presentations: Jurors read and recorded a proclamation honoring Waylon Bourgeois of Church Point for competing at the National Finals Rodeo and marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a proclamation that cites federal civil-rights laws. Representatives from the Diamond D/Borell Youth Rodeo Association described their nonprofit youth rodeo program, requested parish support and provided a sponsorship packet and event schedule for 2026.
Technology and accomplishments: Staff demonstrated (video audio failed in the chamber) a new Acadia Parish Police Jury mobile app that lists drainage board districts, contact numbers, road supervisors, juror photos and push notifications. Officials also presented a "Protecting Taxpayer Dollars: 2025 Financial and Operational Overview," highlighting road and drainage projects, airport fencing and upgrades, three approved solar projects that are expected to deliver about $765,000 in combined payments to the parish, and a safety program implemented after insurance-cost increases.
Airport project: The jury approved final contract change order #1 for the airfield perimeter fencing (LaGro Memorial Airport), adding $32,473 and bringing the contract to $390,132; jurors also adopted a termination notice to close the project and begin the lien period. Engineers said the contract remained under the original engineer’s estimate and that unused federal entitlement funds would roll over to future airport projects.
Appointments and routine business: Jurors approved a slate of 2026 committee appointments and several board reappointments, including library board seats and drainage boards, and agreed to call a public hearing for March 10, 2026, to consider lowering a speed limit on Ray (Milner) Road from 35 mph to 25 mph. The jury also approved a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA) with Donald D. Landry, the 15th Judicial District Attorney, as a routine technical item.
Finances: Parish CPA Miss Sean presented December 2025 financial statements showing cash of about $20.8 million, investments around $34 million, current assets approximately $11.7 million, liabilities of about $1.9 million and an unaudited year-end deficit of roughly $523,000 that staff will reconcile over the next 60 days.
Final business: Permits were approved, final motions were carried, and the meeting adjourned.
