Town launches 'Cheshire Town Square' newsletter; council authorizes grants and budget hearing dates

Town Manager Sean M. Kimball told the Town Council on Feb. 10 that the town released the first issue of a new newsletter, Cheshire Town Square, earlier that day and plans to consolidate the town manager’s report and community notices into the new publication.
"We released our first newsletter, the Cheshire Town Square," Kimball said, adding that the office hopes the newsletter will make meeting notices, department updates and event information easier for residents to find.
The council also moved forward on several administrative authorizations. Council approved a call for a public hearing on the proposed general fund operating budget for fiscal year 2026–27, the water pollution control department fund and the community pool fund; the hearing was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Separately, the council authorized the town to apply for a Connecticut Department of Transportation Section 5310 grant of $113,600 to replace an aging senior‑center minibus and approved a required 20% municipal match of $28,400. Town staff said the total vehicle cost is $142,000 and described the program as one the town has used previously.
The council also authorized applying for the Connecticut State Library’s 2027 historic documents preservation grant of $6,000 to fund records conservation and preservation work; staff said Cheshire has participated in the program annually since 2002 and the grant will cover the project budget with a small local match.
Councilors welcomed the newsletter and supported the grant authorizations, voting unanimously on the motions to authorize applications and to schedule the budget hearing. Town staff said they will post required public notices and return to council with any grant acceptance requests if awards are made.
No expenditures were appropriated at the meeting; the DOT action authorized only an application and the budget hearing will be the venue for further public discussion and any subsequent appropriations.
