City staff and the council’s design subcommittee gave the Coppell City Council a schematic‑phase update on Feb. 10 for a planned renovation of the council chambers and the adjacent conference room.
The presenter (working with architect firm BKB) said the project goals are to improve functionality, accessibility and technology while preserving civic character. Notable design moves include rotating the dais to provide more balanced sightlines, replacing ramps with an ADA‑compliant slope, and shifting a hospitality wall back about five feet to create a larger presentation area in the conference room. The presenter described flooring zones, seating options and three tiers of material choices (good/better/best) the subcommittee will review.
Councilmembers responded positively to the concept. One member said the new orientation will be “a lot more welcoming,” and another pointed out that the layout addresses mobility‑access concerns raised by constituents. Staff said the project will advance to more detailed design drawings and cost estimates, with subcommittee review of finishes, value engineering and a future construction award brought to council for approval.
No formal vote occurred on Feb. 10; the presentation served to solicit feedback and to confirm next steps in the design and budgeting process.
