Nicole Schroer, operations director at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Story County, presented the club’s annual report to the Story County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 10, outlining program growth, services and partnerships.
Schroer said the organization operates two sites — Ames (K–12) and Nevada (K–8) — with extended hours during vacations and no‑school days (open roughly 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on those days) and after‑school programs during the school year (Ames open until 7 p.m.; Nevada until 6 p.m.). She said the Ames renovation and expansion is complete and that the Nevada site increased capacity to 45 children per day. Schroer reported a combined total of 322 children served in 2025, representing a 22% increase over 2024.
The club also provides daily meals and reported substantial meal delivery in 2024: Ames provided 12,022 meals and Nevada provided 3,954 meals; staff said the program distributed 10,300 pounds of food to families in 2025 through partnerships with the Food Bank of Iowa and local grocers. Schroer highlighted academic and enrichment programming including STEM, robotics, and tutoring partnerships with ISU work‑study and America Reads/America Counts.
Supervisors thanked Schroer and asked about the new building and available rental space; club staff said rental revenue helps pay down building costs and that they will continue outreach to fill capacity.
