City staff told the Community Development committee that preparations for the 2026 Vine Street Market are underway and the season will open May 9.
Staff said they received 116 vendor applications, including 43 new applicants, and that a jury will pare the list to about 100 vendors who will be locked into summer contracts. "They jury them and they'll, will that list of a 116 or a 120, whatever we're at, down to probably a 100, and then they'll lock those 100 vendors into contracts for all summer long," staff said.
Officials also reported 47 music applications for two stages each week, eight food‑truck applications and a slate of micro‑market dates (Feb 28, Mar 28, Apr 11 and Apr 25) intended as single‑site previews ahead of the market season. Key downtown events noted on the committee agenda were the Strawberry Festival on May 16, Pete's Festival July 18, Watermelon Festival Aug. 8 and the market's final day Oct. 17; a Thanksgiving market is scheduled Nov. 20.
Staff encouraged council and community partners to note vendor and event dates to coordinate permits, staging and downtown promotions. Committee members did not take formal action on the market update and there were no public comments.
