DRC adopts additional application questions to guide board recruitment

The Downtown Revitalization Committee on June 24 adopted additional questions to its application process to help the committee and City Council evaluate candidates for upcoming vacancies.
Elaine, city staff, reviewed city code requirements for board recommendations and showed examples of how Planning & Zoning and the Economic Development Corporation use supplemental questions. The committee discussed several options and agreed to include questions about applicants' interest/connection to the committee, a brief statement of related experience "if any," what they would offer to the committee, and whether they have reviewed the downtown master plan.
Chair Kristen LeBaron made the motion to add the discussed questions to the DRC application and Daniel Scott seconded the motion. The motion was adopted and staff will update the online application and notify existing applicants to answer the additional questions or reapply.
A staff example question referencing the city plan asked, "Have you reviewed the LHTX 2040 comprehensive strategic master plan? Do you understand and agree with the findings and the recommendations?" Staff recommended phrasing experience questions with "if any" to avoid discouraging applicants without formal resumes.
What’s next: staff will add the adopted supplemental questions to the City of Liberty Hill application portal and reach out to applicants already in the candidate pool to provide guidance on answering the new items.
