Liberty Hill to move utility poles, add benches and advance streetscape phases

Committee members received a progress report on several downtown revitalization projects, including pole relocations, bench installations and infrastructure upgrades.
Mike told the committee staff will meet with PEC next week to start relocating four utility poles and that PEC aims to complete the relocations by the end of the year. “So PEC is looking at relocating the poles by the end of this year,” he said, and added that the total budget for that work is $237,000 and ‘‘city council's already approved that.’’
Staff said the Economic Development Corporation funded park benches for the new streetscape; production is roughly a 12-week timeline and the plan is to install benches as each streetscape phase is completed. “We also ordered park benches to go on the new streetscape,” a staff speaker said.
Other infrastructure updates included an ARPA-funded water and wastewater project on Myrtle Lane, which staff said has a budget of about $2,000,000 and is intended to increase capacity for downtown growth. Staff also reported ongoing wastewater-line work that may take about a year, and said they applied to TxDOT for a grant to widen the shared-use path in front of Liberty Hill Elementary from 5 to 10 feet; the grant decision was still pending.
Staff said later-phase streetscape work would include string lights across Main Street and a monument archway, subject to funding. The committee was also told a bank-building renovation has a preconstruction meeting scheduled but an end user has not been confirmed. The committee agreed to continue tracking timelines and asked staff to return with updates.
