The board also approved proposed essay questions for several town scholarships (Nehemiah B. Stone, Jesse Smith Educational Fund, Edwin Phillips Cooking Fund, M. Wayne Colby) after discussing low applicant numbers and online availability; a motion to approve the questions passed but was not unanimous. Board members asked staff to explore posting scholarship applications on the school or town website and to work with guidance offices to ensure students receive and return signed applications.
Town Administrator Andrew provided a report listing volunteer opportunities and municipal job openings, updates on the fire station project (roof nearly complete, interior walls being laid out), landfill capping site clearing, the resignation of student representative Danica Marcotte and outreach to find a replacement, motor vehicle excise bills due March 11, and the Charlton Business Alliance expo set for March 5. Andrew also asked to continue representing the town in Bay Path School District collective bargaining selection and the board had no objections.
