County Administrator Drew updated the commission on infrastructure and federally-related steps the county is pursuing to support dredging and shoreline needs.
Drew said the county submitted a Joint Permit Application (JPA) and the required Section 408 materials and that those documents are under review; county staff have received questions and have supplied additional information. He also reported that Congressman Willis raised the county’s dredging needs at a House Transportation committee hearing and that the congressman’s office has been engaging on the county’s behalf to explore funding channels.
Separately, staff briefed commissioners on a bottoms-up review of a local loan/grant program and circulated revised materials for comment; staff indicated those documents will be available to commissioners for further review and future discussion. Commissioners also discussed the possibility of hosting the Northern Neck 250 mobile history tour during the heritage farmers market and identified potential partner sites including Hewlett’s Tavern and library properties.
Next steps County staff will continue responding to federal reviewers on the JPA and Section 408 submission. The county will track any opportunities that Congressman Willis’ outreach produces and will report further updates to the EDC. Staff will continue to finalize loan/grant updates and coordinate logistics for the mobile history tour if organizers confirm dates.
