The House State Affairs Committee adopted a committee substitute (CS) as the working document for House Concurrent Resolution 9, a bipartisan measure recognizing the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and encouraging commemorative activities and enhanced civics education.
Representative Steve St. Clair read portions of House Resolution 6 and described the resolution’s emphasis on timeless principles in the Declaration of Independence, the oath of enlistment, and the importance of civics education. Committee leadership merged that language into HCR9 and adopted the CS as the working draft. There was no public testimony for the item.
The committee set an amendment deadline for Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. and will take up the resolution again at the next hearing on Thursday, Feb. 5.
