The Jamestown Finance Committee reported a resolution that the council will carry forward tonight: the city agreed to transfer the property at 17 Deering Avenue to the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency (JURA) for no payment.
"Whereas, the City of Jamestown has agreed to transfer the property at 17 Deering Avenue to the Jamestown Urban Renewal Agency for no dollars and no cents," a committee representative said during the finance report.
Finance staff also reported on revenue collection: Erica said the city has collected "over 78% of the taxes so far this year," noting this is a bit below the typical 80% benchmark and estimating that difference amounts to about $330,000. She said December sales-tax receipts were roughly 21% higher than the same report last year.
Council members asked staff to confirm dollar figures; staff said a final number would be available later in the week. Deadlines for tax payments were restated: payments are due Jan. 31 without penalty, penalties increase 1% per month, and March 31 is the last day for regular collection before accounts are turned over.
The resolution to transfer 17 Deering Avenue was approved in committee and will move forward to the council docket for final action.
