Senator Walker introduced Senate Bill 409 to the committee, describing it as a consumer-protection and transparency measure for homeowners. "If the insurance company decides to nonrenew a homeowner's policy based on using aerial imagery to say your roof is in need of repair, then they have to send the policyholder a copy of the picture, and it's gotta be date stamped," he said.
Walker said the bill aims to improve transparency when insurers use aerial imagery for underwriting and nonrenewal decisions so homeowners can verify the evidence behind insurer actions. Committee members acknowledged the bill as "a good bill" intended "for the people," but no detailed amendment or vote on SB409 was recorded at the hearing.
The committee approved its agenda by voice vote and adjourned to committee work; SB409 was on the list of bills identified for consideration.
