Loudoun Planning Commission reelects chair, names Moderetti vice chair and adopts calendar

The Loudoun County Planning Commission met Jan. 8 and completed officer elections, approved its 2026 meeting calendar and voted to ask the Board of Supervisors for a joint planning session.
Commissioner Jasper nominated Cliff Keers for chair and Commissioner Barnes seconded the nomination. Commissioner Myers nominated Mark Miller, seconded by Commissioner Combs. After a roll-call of commissioners the chair announced he had been reelected for the upcoming year. When nominations for vice chair were taken Commissioner Banks nominated Commissioner Moderetti, seconded by Commissioner Barnes; Commissioner Miller declined the nomination and Moderetti was installed as vice chair.
The commission then moved to routine business. Commissioner Combs moved and Commissioner Banks seconded approval of the Nov. 13 work‑session minutes; the motion carried 9-0. The commission discussed shifting meeting days but staff warned of conflicts with board business, BZA and other standing meetings. With changes to accommodate the APA Virginia conference and holiday adjustments, commissioners voted to adopt the schedule as amended (motion carried 9-0).
Later in the session Commissioner Myers moved, and Commissioner Combs seconded, a motion directing the chair to send a letter to the Board of Supervisors requesting a planning work session before the August recess; that motion passed unanimously 9-0.
Why it matters: The officers and schedule shape how the commission manages workloads, hearings and staff resources through the year. The unanimous vote to seek a joint session signals a desire for closer coordination with the Board of Supervisors on planning priorities.
What’s next: Staff will send calendar invites to commissioners’ county email addresses and the chair’s letter will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for scheduling.
