Houston County approves $1.679 million GMP for HEMA storage warehouse

Chief Stoner, who spoke during public comment as the county’s fire/chief official, praised the selection and the price, saying the proposal kept the county "well under what we had hoped for" and that the new facility will "greatly benefit the citizens" by improving efficiency for emergency response and the sheriff’s department.
County leaders noted the project will colocate emergency management storage and provide a purpose-built facility adjacent to existing county operations, which they said will speed response times during disasters and streamline resource distribution. No changes to the GMP were proposed at the meeting.
The board took the vote as part of its consent agenda and did not set new milestones beyond the projected July 1 delivery date. The county did not provide a construction schedule or detailed budget line items during the meeting; those details were reported as included in the FY25 budget but were not specified in the public record presented at the meeting.
