Nevada County proclaims Grand Jury Awareness Month, recognizes long-serving staff at employee awards

The Board unanimously approved a resolution recognizing February 2026 as Grand Jury Awareness Month, thanked grand-jury members and recognized SR Jones’ retirement; the county also held employee service awards honoring staff with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 35 years of service, including Sheriff Shannon Moon’s 35-year recognition.
The Board of Supervisors used part of its Feb. 10 agenda to recognize the county civil grand jury and to honor long-serving county employees.
Carissa Cyr, senior management analyst, presented a resolution declaring February 2026 Grand Jury Awareness Month, explaining the grand jury’s oversight role and statutory basis under the state constitution. Debbie Heller of the grand jury thanked the Board and staff.
The Board approved the proclamation on a roll-call vote. Supervisors thanked the jury for their time and noted recruiting challenges and opportunities to recruit younger jurors.
The meeting also included a certificate of recognition for SR Jones on retirement; colleagues praised Jones’ work with land-use and LAFCO matters and noted the successor and staff who will continue the work.
Later in the afternoon the Board held its annual employee service awards, honoring dozens of staff across departments who reached service milestones; Sheriff Shannon Moon received recognition for 35 years of service and accepted remarks noting the demands and rewards of first-response work.
No policy action followed from the recognitions; the items were ceremonial and informational.
