District secures extra naloxone packs; staff advise AED storage and staff awareness

District health staff reported the county health department offered additional naloxone booster packs to place in school AEDs. The supplies are packaged as two‑dose blister packs and the health advisor advised against breaking packs into single doses because the instructions and stabilization are packaged per set. The county agreed to provide five additional two‑dose packs (ten doses total) for district pickup.
Staff said AED placement inside buildings (near gyms and cafeterias as appropriate) is preferable; they recommended against placing naloxone packs in exterior AEDs that are exposed to direct sunlight or heat. Trustees asked that building leaders and staff be told where supplies are stored so employees can locate them in an emergency.
The board also discussed EpiPen availability; presenters reported the district has one free set per building and purchased an additional set for the field house. EpiPens are heat sensitive and are best stored in clinics rather than outdoor or unregulated locations; additional EpiPens beyond the free allotment would incur extra cost.
Board members directed staff to confirm final pickup and to identify priority AED locations so the district can store the additional naloxone packs and communicate placement to building staff.
