MURRYSVILLE — Council members raised alarms at the Jan. 20 meeting about an unfilled Uniform Construction Code (UCC) Board of Appeals, which handles appeals of local UCC decisions.
“ My understanding is that that is a matter of extreme urgency, that we either find people to fill those positions… or look at other options,” a council member said, urging the borough to avoid having no appeals board in place.
Chief Administrator Mike confirmed the board was reinstated last year but vacancies remain. He told council the borough can re-advertise openings, prepare a job description to help recruitment and consider alternatives — including working with neighboring municipalities or a council of governments — if local candidates cannot be found. Mike also said the board typically requires three members.
Council directed staff to place the topic on the next agenda, prepare a job description, and re-advertise the openings, including posting on the municipal website once the vacancy page is available. Members suggested recruiting candidates from building trades and construction professionals who meet the statutory eligibility requirements.
No appointments were made at the meeting; staff said it will update council when it has a draft job description and outreach plan.
