District outlines blueprint priorities: mental health, instruction and expanded safety programs

District leaders presented updates on the Brighton Central School District blueprint during the Nov. 18 meeting, highlighting mental-health work, academic initiatives and operations improvements.
Presenters described targeted professional learning for staff, ongoing social-emotional-learning lessons across K–12, student focus groups and communications work to help families access mental-health resources. The academic presentation noted grade-level transfer goals, a K–5 math textbook review, adoption work on New York State computer-science standards and continued rollout of district grading-practices and AI tools for instruction.
On operations, Director of Safety and Security Teresa Mosier detailed new systems: "Visitor Aware" visitor-management, full implementation of the TAP app to allow real-time staff communication and student accountability, reunification planning with community partners and I Love You Guys training for roughly 140 staff, and building-level cardiac-response teams with AED/CPR training. The district also reported adoption of LineWise and Incident IQ for online activity monitoring and incident reporting, and a Safe Schools reporting line for anonymous tips.
Presenters said these programs are being monitored with data to guide improvements and that ongoing outreach will continue. Several board members asked clarifying questions about implementation timing and coverage across buildings.
