Albany approves $126,882 contract to install sidewalk pavers near Saint Nicholas Hotel

The Albany City Commission voted Dec. 19 to award a $126,882 contract to Kate Fuller and Sons to install sidewalk pavers on Washington Street adjacent to the Saint Nicholas Hotel.
City procurement staff told the commission the sidewalk work is part of the city’s downtown streetscape program, which officials said was seeded in part by a Georgia Department of Transportation grant the city obtained in 2019. "We did receive four bids," procurement staff said during the meeting, explaining the solicitation was advertised locally and on the Georgia Procurement Registry and sent to 27 potential vendors.
The resolution to award the contract passed on a roll-call vote. City staff said the sidewalk phase is the first portion of the Sandy Bottom District improvements; the commission previously allocated $1,000,000 for downtown sidewalk upgrades, with $500,000 earmarked for the Washington area and $500,000 for the Harlem District.
Supporters said the work is intended to complement the Downtown Master Plan adopted in October 2022 and to help revive the Harlem District and surrounding commercial corridors. Procurement staff and project presenters told the commission the contract selected the lowest responsive bidder after a rebid of the work.
The commission did not add conditions to the award. With the contract approved, staff will proceed with scheduling and execution under the city’s standard contracting procedures.
