Albany authorizes city attorney to seek PFAS testing reimbursement and outside counsel

The Albany City Commission authorized the city attorney on Dec. 16 to seek repayment for PFAS testing costs and to pursue outside counsel for pending multi-district PFAS litigation.
City attorney Michael Custer said the testing has already been done and that staff will request repayment of those expenses and evaluate options for joining settlement processes in the ongoing litigation. Commissioners asked whether test levels qualified the city for compensation; staff said that would depend on laboratory results and settlement terms.
The motion to authorize filing claims and identifying outside counsel passed on roll call. The city will report back with legal options and any recoverable amounts.
