Staff presented sample sign designs and recommended a one‑foot by 2.5‑foot format for vehicle entrances, noting the sizing is consistent with recommendations in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for informational signs on a 20 mph road. Staff said the signage cost could be handled from the operating budget.
Council discussed consistency across park sites and whether to include rules such as ‘‘no overnight parking’’ at parking lots like Holly Hill Trails and Tyler Park. Several councilmembers said a simple sign with hours and the overnight‑parking prohibition is preferable to cluttered messages. Council also agreed Veterans Point should remain accessible to pedestrians using the walk‑trail network and directed staff not to impose hours that would conflict with pathway use.
Councilman Summerlin moved, and Councilman Pollard seconded, approval of the sign size and proposed locations; the motion carried by voice vote.
Staff will finalize sign language and install signs at the agreed locations using operating funds.
