Chief announces $670,000 of community project funding for portable radio replacement

Town public-safety leaders told the board on Feb. 5 that Congressman Mervan secured $670,000 in community project funding to replace Sherwood’s portable radios.
Police Chief Peter Sormoz said the funding came through the community project funding (CJS portion) and that the town had applied in 2024. Fire Chief Robert Patterson and others publicly thanked the congressman and said manager-level staff would send formal letters of appreciation to his office.
Chief Sormoz said the grant will allow the town to move forward with replacing portable radios and that staff would coordinate next steps with the congressman’s office.
