Wayne County approves Aaron Wagner as procurement director, to start Feb. 23 at $176,000

John Wallace, chief financial officer for Wayne County, introduced Wagner and said the candidate “comes with us with over 20 years of procurement experience in public sector and private sector experience,” and noted Wagner’s recent role as chief procurement officer in Oakland County as well as prior service in Wayne County. Wallace also told commissioners Wagner is slated to start on Feb. 23 at a salary of $176,000.
Commission business was brief. Commissioner Baker McCormack moved to appoint Wagner; Commissioner Clemente seconded the motion. With no questions or objections recorded on the appointment, the committee approved the motion by voice vote.
Why it matters: the procurement director oversees county purchasing, vendor contracts and compliance, and Wallace told the panel Wagner is expected to help advance procurement strategy, metrics and the county’s Oracle implementation.
