Senate Appropriations Advances H 790, Flags Section 8 Language for Reconciliation

An unidentified speaker at the Senate Appropriations Committee on Feb. 10 said the panel was preparing to advance H 790, which the speaker identified as the Budget Adjustment Act of 2026. "We are preparing to vote out h 7 90, which is the budget adjustment act of 2026," the speaker said.

The speaker told the committee the version before members incorporated the changes the committee had previously approved and invited members to go online to confirm text. "We incorporated senator Watson's addition to that language," the speaker said, noting an outstanding drafting issue on page 54, section 79 that "relates to the section 8 housing." The committee was told the two competing drafts may need reconciliation later "either through a floor amendment or through the conference committee."

Senator Westman asked whether a second was required for the proposal; the chair replied that a second was not necessary. The committee then called the vote. Senators Ruth, Brennan, Lyons, George, Watson, Westman and Birchland were recorded as answering "Yes."
