Granville County approves multiple appointments, hears manager and commissioner updates

Granville County commissioners approved multiple appointments and reappointments to advisory boards and commissions during their Jan. 20 meeting and received several updates from county staff and commissioners.
The board approved appointment slates for the Emergency Services Advisory Committee, environmental advisory positions (Districts 1–3 were reappointed; District 7 remains vacant), and reappointments to the health department and the Graham‑Vance District Board of Health. The motions to approve the slates were made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
County staff provided operational updates. The county manager said staff would monitor a forecasted snow event and hold an all‑hands meeting to prepare municipal and county crews. The manager also thanked Granville Medical Center staff and noted the imminent departure of management analyst David Schexnayder. Commissioners praised courthouse staff and discussed logistics for a joint board meeting with the school board, reported by a commissioner as Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. in an adjoining room.
Commissioners also discussed a proposed quarter‑cent sales tax referendum to shift some revenue away from property taxes. One commissioner said he had seen misinformation circulating online about the measure and stressed that the sales tax referendum is not the same as a property‑tax increase.
The meeting moved into a short break and continued to the second section after the board approved a motion to recess.
