Deborah told the board that the county had revised its application at the state’s request to classify a portion of the grant as a workforce development transportation project rather than operational support for Thompson House of Hope. "We'll call this a workforce development transportation project," she said, explaining the plan would help the nonprofit replace aging vehicles and possibly buy two new vans to support client transportation for counseling, medical visits and work placements.
Board members noted that a 15‑passenger van is difficult to source and that a single vehicle may be the realistic near‑term outcome. The board also confirmed other priorities listed in the county’s application, including a $12,000 Chamber of Commerce membership allotment and a transportation line item (presented as $80,000 in the application). Members discussed partnering on business training, consulting and marketing support and asked staff to pursue partnerships (for example with the Chamber or Custom Fit) to avoid duplicating services and to leverage co‑op grants.
No final, binding change to the grant application was made at the meeting; staff will continue to refine project descriptions and vehicle procurement timelines before submission or implementation.
