Little Miami board declares urgent necessity to repair central office roof after indoor leaks

The Little Miami Local School Board voted Feb. 10 to declare an urgent necessity to repair extensive roof leaks and water damage at the district’s central office.

Staff described interior water intrusion last week and asked the board to approve Resolution 26005 to allow work to proceed before the district’s standard, longer bid timeline could be completed. Officials said the goal is to avoid further damage to a building the district values at “millions of dollars.”

The administration said it has a current quote from American Roofing, a contractor that has performed prior work for the district, and that the resolution’s language allows bids to continue to be solicited so long as any materially lower bid is shared with the board. Staff emphasized that installation must meet manufacturer temperature and warranty guidelines; they said crews could start when temperatures are freezing or above and that seams may take longer to set in colder weather.

Board members asked whether delaying to seek additional bids would reduce cost. Staff cautioned that waiting risks further interior damage and said the resolution includes “guide rails” to accept a lower bid if one arrives. The board then approved the resolution by roll call; the vote recorded Missus Bullock, Mister Wallace, Mister Smith, Missus Horvath and Mister Seaver as yes votes.

Next steps identified by staff included continuing to accept bids, confirming manufacturer installation conditions and moving forward with contract award as soon as weather and warranty conditions were satisfied.
