Residents press Flagstaff to confirm removal of Flock surveillance cameras

At the start of the Feb. 10 work session several residents urged the City Council to confirm that the city's contract cancellation with Flock resulted in the physical removal of surveillance cameras.
Ira Allen thanked the council for canceling the contract and said he had not seen a follow-up update about the cameras' physical removal. "We have yet to see an update about that," he said, and pointed to media reports from other cities alleging partial or surreptitious reinstallation after contract cancellations. Chelsea Green told the council she drove past four locations and saw cameras that appeared to be installed.
City staff responded that a press release had been posted and stated on the website that staff were working with Flock to remove cameras and had hoped to have them removed by Feb. 5; staff said they were checking the physical removal and would bring back an update. The city manager reiterated community concern about misinformation and said some cameras spotted by residents may not be part of the city's Flock contract.
Council did not take formal action but asked staff to continue investigating and to post any resulting updates on the city website.
