Norwood Trails sets outreach goals for 2026, eyes library presentation and short-notice snowshoe walks

Summary
Committee scheduled a library update for late April, discussed quick-notice snowshoe walks while snowpack lasts, and proposed a shareable calendar and themed guided hikes as year-long outreach priorities.
The Norwood Trails Advisory Committee agreed to pursue a mix of outreach activities for 2026, including a short ‘annual’ update at the public library and a series of short-notice, volunteer-led snowshoe walks while local snowpack remains.
Lee (participating remotely) volunteered to coordinate a library presentation (committee discussion focused on an initial short update with a separate engineering talk to follow). Members proposed an in-library, early-evening event around April 22 and agreed to confirm with library publicity staff.
Because of current unusually deep snow, volunteers discussed running one or two snowshoe walks in mid-February (options included Feb. 15 and Feb. 20) and discussed logistics such as leaders, trail selection and whether the committee or the Recreation Department could help secure loaner snowshoes. They noted short-notice outreach would benefit from a committee-controlled social media feed or a quick-broadcast mechanism rather than relying on a single popular Facebook page.
The committee also proposed a monthly shareable calendar for internal coordination (a Google Calendar that could later be posted to the town website) and a set of themed guided hikes (bird walks, fall foliage walks) that could be run with modest honoraria for outside guides. Members suggested pursuing small external grants for guided programming if desired.
