Committee approves 4-hour parking near former Newman Center to support UW Oshkosh use

The Oshkosh Transportation Committee voted unanimously to change the posted limit on several stalls near the former Newman Center on the UW Oshkosh campus from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
Mason Robinson, who identified himself from 860 Wisconsin Street and described team operations at the new building, told the committee that the longer parking would help coaches, staff and visiting recruits and families. "We moved into this building about a month or 2 ago," Robinson said, adding that staff and volunteers and visiting recruits use those spots and that longer limits would improve customer service during recruiting events.
Committee members and staff said the stalls are often empty and that adjusting the time limit when the spaces are available will not prevent competition with students or faculty. A staff member noted the city cannot reserve the right-of-way for a private entity but can manage time limits.
The motion to change the time limit was moved, seconded and approved by a recorded roll call with all members voting Aye (Armstrong, Merritt, Hartman, Lynch, Martin). The committee will forward the recommendation to the common council as appropriate.
