North Brookfield approves warrants and emergency spending; board accepts town administrator's resignation

At its Feb. 10 meeting, the Town of North Brookfield Board of Selectmen approved payroll warrant No. 16 and several other warrants covering school, regional planning, general fund and construction projects, and ratified an emergency heating‑oil purchase made during a major snowstorm.
Chair presented payroll warrant #16 for $357,991.76 and listed school warrant #1066 for $139,503.19, CMRPC warrant #1067 for $10,818.84, general fund warrant #1068 for $445,920.82 and construction projects warrant #1069 for $81,870.85; the board approved the warrants by voice vote.
The board also approved a $1,575.69 emergency payment to cover heating oil ordered when a scheduled delivery failed during heavy winter weather. The chair described the purchase as an emergency order made during the storm.
Pete summarized a holding‑funds request to buy life‑saving medical items for police, fire and EMS — including tourniquets, replacement first‑aid bags, AEDs and pads, batteries and an oxygen regulator for EMS — saying the current equipment was over 20 years old in some cases. “Tourniquets for all your police officers... new first‑aid bags for the police department. Those are over 20 years old,” Pete said as he outlined items the three departments deemed necessary. The board voted to approve the expenditure from holding/hospital funds.
The board accepted a $1,000 check from Brookfield Savings Bank to the fire gift fund for repairs and services and voted to accept the firefighter safety equipment grant application, a $12,500 grant (no match) to purchase a gear dryer and related equipment.
Chair announced that Town Administrator Ronald Aponte tendered his resignation effective Feb. 1; the board moved to accept the resignation and approved the motion by voice vote. The board did not discuss transition details during the meeting.
Other administrative items approved included a $250 contract with LOL Entertainment for a singer at the senior center Valentine’s lunch and standard departmental reports.
The board adjourned following announcements about the May 4, 2026 town election and the upcoming combined water/sewer billing cycle.
