Integra Biosciences representatives briefed the Merrimack Planning Board on July 1 about a conceptual plan for a large medical‑device manufacturing campus at the corner of Daniel Webster Highway and Mass Road.
Jim Petropoulos, a professional engineer with Hainer Swanson Inc., said the consolidated development would total about 420,000 square feet, including two levels of manufacturing, two levels of office space and roughly 150,000 square feet of warehouse space. The concept includes a five‑story integrated parking structure that would provide approximately 340 parking spaces, and the company estimates about 225 employees initially rising to about 400 at full build‑out. The applicant described the manufacturing operations as ‘‘clean’’ — conducted in ISO class clean rooms — and stated there would be no emissions or effluent from the process.
Key site elements flagged for future permitting include a proposed rail spur to the CSX line to accept resin deliveries, stormwater management with bio‑retention areas and a larger stormwater pond, and wetland permitting. The applicant said they had already had preliminary conversations with New Hampshire DES and with the conservation commission; the engineer estimated the project may require approximately 2.4 acres of wetland fill and therefore will need state permits and zoning‑board approvals for buffer impacts.
Board members asked about truck trips, signal warrants at the Mass Road/Daniel Webster Highway intersection, demolition of two small houses on the site, expected schedule and whether operations from nearby Hudson facilities would be consolidated into Merrimack. The applicant said they hoped to begin construction this coming winter and that the Hudson facilities would move into the new Merrimack site.
No formal vote was taken; the board treated the item as a conceptual presentation and advised the applicant to continue coordination with staff, DOT (for access on Daniel Webster Highway), DES and the conservation commission before submitting a formal application. The applicant said that future permit applications will include subdivision material, a site plan set, traffic and stormwater studies and any requested waivers.
