Henrico School Board elects Madison Irving chair, Ryan Young vice chair; names clerk and meeting schedule

Madison Irving was elected chair of the Henrico County School Board for 2026 on Jan. 8, the board announced during a short reorganization work session.
Superintendent Dr. Cashwell opened nominations for chair; Madison Irving was nominated and a motion to elect him carried on a voice vote. After the vote, Irving said, “I am deeply grateful to work with each and every one of you, and I look forward to all the great things we’ll continue to do for the people of Henrico County.”
The board also elected Ryan Young to serve as vice chair and appointed Tiffany Burton as clerk to the school board, each by voice vote. Board members congratulated the newly elected officers.
In other business, the board approved a schedule of regular meetings — the second and fourth Thursdays of each month — to comply with Chapter 7, Title 22 of the Code of Virginia. Dr. Cashwell recommended that schedule to ensure statutory compliance. He also recommended that the chief of school leadership be designated as his designee to attend board meetings in his absence and that the chief of staff serve as the alternate; the board approved the recommendation. “It is my pleasure to recommend that the chief of school leadership be designated as my designee,” Dr. Cashwell said.
Board members reported no conflicts on committee assignments and heard that no public comments were submitted for this session. The board announced its next meeting will be Jan. 22 in the Newbridge Learning Center auditorium and then adjourned.
