Staff and trip organizers told the School Committee on Nov. 20 that a Universal/Disney music trip is planned for Swampscott High students to provide performance and master-class opportunities. Kayla, introduced as the assistant director for musicals and the owner of Whimsical Wishes Travel, said organizers aim to make the trip inclusive and keep per-student costs low by offering quad, double and suite options and by including airfare, hotels and meals in the price. Organizers said they had 54 students registered and cited fundraising (wreath sales, raffles) to offset costs.
Committee members sought clarification on eligible grades (presenters confirmed grades 9–12) and vendor experience; presenters said they had run prior trips (New York, Disney) and that the travel coordinator travels with students to handle logistics and dietary needs.
Earlier in the meeting, the committee presented the Swampscott High School academic-excellence award to Owen Vigan, citing his rigorous course load (including nine AP classes), leadership in music and participation in the innovation pathways advanced manufacturing program.
