Summary
The school committee accepted a $500 gift for the high-school theater program, $7,000 for the high-school TV program and $1,000 from an estate for Swampscott High School. Motions to accept donations and to approve minutes passed; no controversy or conditions were recorded.
The Swampscott School Committee accepted three charitable gifts at its Jan. 8 meeting.
The board read donations submitted by Walker Christie of the Witherspoon Foundation: $500 to support the high school theater program and $7,000 for the high school TV program; an additional $1,000 donation from the estate of Jane Willette Cox was also presented for Swampscott High School. The TV-program representative said the $7,000 will likely fund replacement of aging TV cameras and other equipment.
A motion to accept donations a, b and c together was made and seconded; the motion carried with all members present answering "Aye." The committee later moved to accept minutes from the subcommittee and regular sessions (Dec. 4); that motion was also seconded and approved.
No additional conditions or earmarks were recorded in the meeting minutes; the committee adjourned after routine business.
